Carol Gentle Obituary

Carol Ann Gentle (Martin) passed away in Canton, GA; surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 15, 1939, to the late Mary Turpin Martin and Richard S. Martin, Carol spent her childhood in Deferiet, NY amidst a large and caring extended family. Upon graduating from Augustinian Academy in Carthage, NY in 1954, Carol pursued her education at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Watertown, NY, earning her degree in 1959. Nursing wasn’t just a profession for her; it was a calling. She tenderly cared for her family members and numerous friends during their medical challenges.

In 1960, drawn by the promise of a warm, sunny climate, Carol relocated to California, bidding farewell to harsh winters. She raised her two daughters in
Sacramento, CA, and forged enduring friendships. Following her retirement from nursing, Carol embarked on a new chapter, moving to Canton, GA to live with her sister and brother-in-law.

Carol flourished in her new environment, enjoying 16 cherished years with her sister, who was fortunate enough to share in her daily adventures until the very end. They were inseparable companions, bonding over shared interests like watching “The Wheel” and “Jeopardy”, gardening, cooking, solving crossword puzzles, porch sitting with friends, and savoring a glass of wine together.

As the guardian of the family’s Polish Christmas Eve traditions, she diligently preserved our heritage and infused our festivities with the same spirit and love as her mother and grandmother before her. Through her unwavering commitment, she fostered a deep sense of connection to our roots, seamlessly weaving generations together in the comforting embrace of tradition.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Richard and Edward. She is survived by her brother, James Martin (Taunya), Sandy, Utah; and
her sister, Mary Martin (Jim Kenton) of Canton, GA. In addition, she leaves behind her two daughters whom she cherished, Robyn Kelly, (Jack), Gilbert, AZ; and Brooke Van Sant (Aaron), Vacaville, CA. Her grandchildren: Gunnar Snider, Chelsea Saccomanno (Nick) and Maci Garza (Martin), Great grandchildren: Aspen, Martin, Jr. and Milo.
