William Benjamin Lago, III.

RUTLAND – William Benjamin Lago III, known to those who loved him as “Ben,” age 56, passed away on September 9, 2026, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY.

Born in Carthage, on August 16, 1970, the son of William and Ellen Lago II.  Ben attended Copenhagen Central School before later moving to Tennessee, where he made his home for approximately 25 years. During his time there, he met Angie Conrad, and the two became loving companions and shared many years of life together. Together, they adopted their beloved Belle, who became an important part of their family.

Ben was a devoted football fan, and there was no question where his loyalty stood—the Miami Dolphins were his team. While living in Tennessee, he also developed a love for collecting Beanie Babies, building a collection that reflected his fun and sentimental side. In more recent years, Ben became an avid Pokémon Go player and enjoyed the adventure, excitement, and friendships that came along with the game.

More than any hobby or interest, Ben will be remembered for the person he was. He had a good heart and cared deeply for the people who were part of his life. He was someone who could bring laughter into a room, share a story, and make memories that people would carry with them long after the moment had passed. Those closest to him knew his personality, his sense of humor, his kindness, and the way he could make the people around him feel like they mattered.

Ben’s life was made up of the people he loved, the friendships he created, the places he called home, and the countless memories he made along the way. His passing leaves an emptiness in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but the memories, laughter, and love he shared will continue to live on.

Ben is survived by his siblings, James F. Lago of Rutland; Carrie Lago and Joseph Mack Jr. of Rutland; and Angel Stiles of Watertown. He is also survived by his nieces, Samantha Potter, Angie Carter, and Roseann Mack; his nephews, Gordon Zehr and Kyle Roggie; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Alexa Carter, Braelon Carter, Navayha Roggie, Nylles Roggie, Calix Freeman, and Lyrik DePuy. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Ben was predeceased by his parents, William and Ellen Lago; his nephew, Joseph D. Mack; his companion, Angie Conrad; and his beloved dog, Belle.

Our family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Aunt Mona for her extraordinary grace, fierce devotion, and tender care throughout Uncle Ben’s time in the hospital. Her love, compassion, and dedication during such a difficult time will never be forgotten.

Ben will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and everyone whose life was touched by knowing him.

Though Ben may no longer be with us in person, the stories, memories, laughter, and love he leaves behind will remain forever.
