Carthage – Terry Montgomery, 73, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, after a courageous battle against Pancreatic and Liver cancer, while at home with his beloved family by his side.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., located at 500 State Street, Carthage, NY 13619. A funeral service will take place at 7:00 pm in the Lundy Funeral Home Chapel following the visitation, with Deacon Staab officiating.

Terry was born on May 1, 1952, in Carthage to the late Herbert G. and Dorothy L. (Williams) Montgomery. After graduating from Carthage Central School, Terry went on to work at a variety of places in the North Country. He spent much of his time working as a miner and general contractor in Carthage and the surrounding areas. Terry married the love of his life, Elaine, on June 26, 1976, at Carthage Methodist Church.

Outside of his career, he was an avid trap shooter at the Rod and Gun club for many years and was a member of the Carthage Elks club for 34 years. Terry enjoyed spending time in his garage listening to music and working on projects. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. Terry is known for his humor, quick wit, and willingness to help anyone in need. He will be missed greatly.

Terry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elaine Montgomery; his children, Jason (Amber) Montgomery of Carthage, and Wendy Montgomery of Carthage. He is survived by his cherished grandchildren, Bree, Garrett, Ashton, Johnna, and Noah, and a great-grandson, Lawson. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Covey of Carthage; his brother and sister-in-law, Bruce (Chris) Montgomery of Carthage; his brother Brian Montgomery of Carthage, and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Dorothy; his sister, Lynda Covey; his brother, David Montgomery; his brother-in-law, Wesley Covey; and his brother-in-law, Lyle Covey.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terry’s memory to the Walker Cancer Center, located at 830 Washington Street, Watertown, NY 13601.
