CARTHAGE- Rose May Hastings, 93, formerly of the Lewis County Extended Care Facility, died peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville, NY. She was born on October 25, 1931, in Champion, New York to the late Arnold A. & Mildred M. (Chubb) McCallops. She married Jesse N. Hastings on March 15, 1959, in Herrings, NY.

She attended a one-room schoolhouse until the 8th grade on the Line School Road in Champion. She was employed by the Watertown Daily Times as a flyer inserter, and she delivered Meals on Wheels at Highrise.

Rose was a member of the Black River Fiddlers; she and Jesse enjoyed square dancing and loved crocheting. She is survived by her nieces, a nephew, and cousins.

She is predeceased by her husband, Jesse Hastings, a brother, William B. “Bill” McCallops, her sisters, Vivian McCallops, and Marjorie Schloeder.

A Graveside Service will take place on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Great Bend.

The family would like to thank the 4th-floor nursing staff for all the love and care they provided to Rose throughout the years.
