COPENHAGEN- Roger E. Shambo, 80, of Stoddard Street, died on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at home under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice. He was born on August 6, 1936 in Watertown to the Late Earl T. & Angeline LaFave Shambo. He grauated from Copenhagen High School. He married Reba McIntyre on September 8, 1956 at the United Church of Copenhagen.
Mr. Shambo retired from Copenhagen central school as building and grounds supervisor after 33 years of dedicated service. The school was his pride and joy and he was always gratified to receive compliments on its appearance.
He is survived by his wife, Reba, Copenhagen; and children Brian and Marcia, Bonaparte, Andrew & Deborah Shambo, Hinckley, Renee & Paul Ferendzo, Watertown. Eric and Mary, Copenhagen, Julie Sawyer and her companion Marc Rusch, Watertown. He is also surived by several siblings, Douglas Shambo, Florida; Anne Conant, Calcium; Robert Shambo, Watertown; William Shambo, Croghan; and Bruce Shambo, Florida. He is also survived by 10-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, a great grandson, Alexander Shambo and a brother, Earl Shambo, Jr.
He served as a member of the Copenhagen Village Board, the board of the United Church of Copenhagen and as a trustee of the Glenfield United Methodist Church. He and Reba were members of the Kountry Kuzzins square dance club and enjoyed traveling with friends to various square dance festivals.
He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, the various activities of his children and grandchildren. Roger was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the SU basketball team.
There will be no public calling hours. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a Scholarship Fund in his name in care of the Copenhagen Central School District, 3020 Mechanic St, Copenhagen, NY 13626.
