Robert L. Stanford, Jr.

CARTHAGE – Robert “Butch” Lyle Stanford, Jr., 75, of Carthage, NY, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026, at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, surrounded by his beloved family,

He was born in Carthage on December 12, 1950, the son of Robert and Elizabeth (LaLone) Stanford. Robert grew up in the area and graduated from Norwood Norfolk Central School. On August 27, 1977, he married Deborah Arquitte at Norwood Methodist Church.

Dedicated to his community and career, Robert coached Carthage Little League Baseball for many years. In 1978, he joined Slack Chemical, starting out as a driver, moved to warehouse manager, and ended his career as a dispatcher. He devoted 41 years of service prior to his retirement.

Butch enjoyed spending time with his family, telling jokes to his grandchildren, and was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan who enjoyed fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Deborah; son Joshua (Erica) Stanford, Carthage; daughter Ellise (Patrick) Newton, North Syracuse; four grandchildren: Emma, Josalyn, Eva and Brent. Also surviving are three sisters, one brother, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Arrangements are with the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, where services and burial are being held privately by the family.
