Robert J Martin Sr.

Carthage – Robert J. Martin, 82, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, while at Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville, NY.

Per his wishes, there will be no services.

Robert was born on March 21, 1943, in Carthage, NY, to the late Cornelius and Eva (Brotherton) Martin. Robert worked a variety of places in the North Country, most notably as a core maker at New York Air Brake in Watertown.

Robert married Eleanor Disotell on August 16th, 1980.

Robert was an avid lover of anything outdoors. His favorite activities were fishing, hunting, and camping. He was an ardent collector of all things, but had a particular fondness for coins. Robert and Eleanor spent a good amount of time finding new items to add to his collections, often driving all over to fill up the back of the truck. Collecting cans was another hobby of his, which he and Eleanor used the proceeds from in order to fund many of their fun activities. Robert also always held a place in his heart for his beloved pets.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Disotell; his children, Robert (Laura Mack) Martin Jr., Patty (Chuck) Chase, Lynn (Stephanie) Martin, David (Lori) Martin; his step-children, Rodney (Diana) Clement, Tommy (Jackie) Rivers, John (Julie) Rivers, and Lee (Clarenda) Rivers; his grandsons, Troy (Tabatha) Rivers and Travis (Shannon) Rivers; a daughter-in-law, Marla Clement; his granddaughter, Jessica Mueller; numerous additional grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Cornelius and Eva (Brotherton) Martin; a step-son, Rick Clement; a step-daughter, Janie (Mike) Schatz; and a sister, Doris Stevens.
