Carthage – Richard “Dick” Tyner, 89, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, while at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY.

Per his wishes, his services will be private, and he will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery in Champion, NY. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date and will be announced.

Richard was born on June 21, 1936, in Carthage, NY, to the late Leonard Tyner & Eunice (Tripp) Hongo. He graduated from Carthage High School, and he then proudly served in the United States Army, NY Army National Guard Reserves from 1955-1961. Dick retired from Carthage Machine after 40 years of dedicated service as a superintendent.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ione (Borland) Tyner, Carthage; whom he married on December 3, 1955, in Carthage, NY; the couple had four children, Deborah Supka, Mount Pleasant, MI; Cyndie Steria, Carthage; Tim Tyner (Pamela Genito) Brownville, NY; and Heidi McCoy, Vine Grove, KY.

He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, and he never considered quitting, even into his late 80s. He also enjoyed camping, reading, and writing poems. Above all, his greatest joys came from spending time with his family and his daily coffee visits with friends.
