Nancy L. Staplin (1945–2026)
WEST CARTHAGE – Nancy L. Staplin, 80, a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, formerly of Black River, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, September 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving husband and supported by Hospice of Jefferson County. She was born on December 27, 1945, in Watertown, NY, to the late Mahlon and Anne (Moore) Lowery.
Nancy graduated from Carthage High School in 1963 and earned her Registered Nurse degree from The House of the Good Samaritan in 1966. On March 19, 1966, she married Wayne Staplin, and together they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. Nancy was deeply devoted to her family and played an instrumental role in managing her husband’s dairy farm. A person of deep faith, she was a member of the Rutland United Church of Christ, Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church, and most recently, the United Church of Christ in Carthage, NY.
Nancy enjoyed a distinguished career serving as the Chief Operating Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at Carthage Area Hospital.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Wayne Staplin of West Carthage; her children, Beth Dunn of Black River, Bonnie Eppolitto of Massachusetts, Karen Staplin of Watertown, Katherine (Kevin) Boutelle of Mexico, NY, and Jason (Jennifer) Staplin of Black River; and her siblings, Beverly Hinshaw of Fulton, Marsha Nevills of Tennessee, and John (Mary) Lowery of New Hampshire. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services:
A Calling Hour will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed immediately by a funeral service at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Lundy Funeral Home. A Burial will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Rutland, NY.
