Mickal Durant Sr.

Carthage - Mickal Durant Sr., 73, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, while at home.

Per his wishes, there will be no funeral services.

Mickal was born on August 13, 1952, in Watertown to the late Robert and Pauline (Files) Durant Sr. After high school, Mickal enlisted in the United States Army, where he worked as a Signal Support System Specialist. He served from 1971 to 1986, when he was honorably discharged due to medical reasons.

He had a previous marriage to Esther (Sixberry) Beach, the mother of his three sons.

He is survived by his children, Mickal (Michelle) Durant Jr. of Lyons Falls, NY, Matt (Cindy) Durant of Florence, SC, and Jason (Shelly) Durant of Oak Ridge, NC; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Molly Barkley and Lucinda “Cindy” Durant; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Pauline; his siblings, Doralyn Marsden, Robert “Bud” Durant Jr., Raymond Durant, Karole Roseanna, Harriett Pena, and Paulette Illingsworth.

Mickal enjoyed watching movies, any genre, and on any format. He especially enjoyed his outings to the beloved Church Street Diner, and most of all, he loved spending time with his sons and their families.
