Carthage - Michael John Frederick Hall, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Sarasota, Florida, surrounded by his family.
Calling hours will be held Monday, May 12, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Lundy Funeral Home, Carthage. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church with Father Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Evans Mills.
Born March 24, 1957, in Watertown, NY, he was the son of Richard and Charlotte (Staie) Hall. Michael graduated from Indian River Central School in 1976, earned an associate's degree from SUNY Canton, and later completed both his bachelor's and master's degrees at SUNY Oswego.
On November 14, 1992, he married Mary Hosmer. Their nearly 33-year marriage was a beautiful blend of faith, family, love, and laughter. A lifelong Catholic, Michael's faith was a steady presence throughout his life, guiding how he treated others-with humor, loyalty, and a big-hearted spirit.
Michael spent 34 years teaching Technology and Driver Education at Beaver River Central School and taught summer Driver's Ed at Watertown High School for over three decades. His humor was legendary-especially when nervously joking with students learning to drive for the first time.
Michael had a gift for turning strangers into friends. Whether blowing the boat horn at Lake Bonaparte, chatting up neighbors, or swapping stories with anyone he met, he made everyone feel like an old friend. He loved to brag (always with a twinkle in his eye) about his favorite toys, the big bucks he hunted, and most of all, his grandchildren, Madelyn and Mason.
He was always busy-working on projects, tinkering with something, making mischief wherever he could, or cheering loudly for his beloved New York Yankees. Calm was never his style; life was meant to be lived loudly, with a grin and a story ready at hand.
Michael was a proud member of the Beaver River Teachers' Association, St. James Catholic Church, the Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club, Knights of Columbus 7471, Carthage Elks Club, and served as Vice President of the Big Buck Hunting Club. Lake Bonaparte was his happy place, where summers were spent boating, laughing, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Michael Robert (Molly) Hall of Watertown; his grandchildren, Madelyn and Mason; brothers, Jim (Karen) Hall and Tom (Suzanne) Hall; nephews, Taylor and Alex Hall; nieces, Nicole Benedict and Kendall Baron; and his aunt and Godmother, Susy Bush. He was predeceased by his parents.
