Fowler — Michael Bigarel, 67, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at home with his wife by his side.
Born July 6, 1958, in Gouverneur, he was the son of the late Earl Alvin and Mary Lou (Schell) Bigarel. He was a graduate of Indian River High School and went on to enjoy a 33-year career as an engineer in cogeneration plants. Over the years, he managed the Solar Products plant in New Jersey and later worked for Carthage Energy, retiring on March 30, 2023, after many dedicated years of service.
He married Edna Bigarel on September 18, 1999.
Michael had a deep appreciation for all things old, from classic cars and antiques to oil cans and lamps. He especially enjoyed working with his hands and could often be found tinkering with his many projects, including cars, firearms, and clocks.
In addition to his wife, Edna, he is survived by his daughter, Kaleigh of Spokane, WA; his granddaughter, Alexis Nile; brothers-in-law, Gary Williams and Robert Cushman; a sister-in-law, Judy Stark; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, with special mention of Jason and Gene Bigarel.
He is predeceased by his parents, Earl and Mary Lou; a sister, Sherrie Williams; a sister-in-law, Patricia Cushman; and a brother-in-law, Howard Stark.
Per his wishes, there will be no services. There will be a graveside service held privately by the family, where he will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Westville.
