CARTHAGEMaryln M. Lil Roberts, 84, formerly of 10 South Main Street, died Saturday morning, January 13, 2018 at the Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown.
Maryln was born on March 5, 1933 in Westchester, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Roy Edward & Edna Frances (Johnson) Yelle. She graduated from Glen Park School in 1952.
She was employed by Bomax Manufacturing, Watertown, for 31 years, before retiring in 2004. After her retirement, she worked for the Carthage School District as a School Bus Aide.
She and her late husband, Mr. Roberts, were life members of the Carthage American Legion, Bassett-Baxter Post #789, as well as the Carthage Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dionne-Rumble Post #1227. Her husband James was a Past Commander of the Carthage American Legion and served two years as Sergeant at Arms. Maryln also served in the Community Action Planning Council.
On September 2nd, 1951 she married James Norman Roberts at the Brownville Methodist Church. They were members of the Carthage United Methodist Church over 50 years. Maryln was very active in her church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting the elderly at the local nursing home. She was an avid walker, walking all over Carthage. She loved to play miniature golf and attending family gatherings. She was a genuinely happy, fun-loving person and a great pleasure to be around.
She is survived by two daughters, Jaime of Milton Vermont; Judy and her husband James Harper of Carthage; four sons and their wives, Jon and Kimberly of Adams Center; Joey and Lois of Lowville; Jeff and Janelle of Powell, Tennessee; and Jay and Robin of Knoxville, Tennessee. Also surviving are two brothers, Carlton Corky Yelle of Adams Center; Gary Yelle of Florida; a sister, Doris McAdam of Watertown; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Maryln is predeceased by a son, James Jr., who died in 1975; two sisters, Joyce Varnedoe and Betti Yelle; and a brother Robert Yelle.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 3-6 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A funeral service will immediately follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 6 PM with the Rev. Frances K. Hemstreet officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in Fairview Cemetery, Carthage.
