Harrisville, New York

Harrisville - Marsha Newton, 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, while at Lewis County General Hospital with her family by her side.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 25120 County Rd 197, Great Bend, NY 13643. A memorial service will be held immediately following the calling hour at 2:00 pm. Following the service, Marsha will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband at Sunnyside Cemetery in Great Bend.

Marsha was born on December 7, 1944, in Carthage to the late Clarence “Pete” and Helen (Trainham) Olds.

She married Harold “Sonny” Newton on August 3, 1963, at The Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church in Great Bend. Everyone who knew Marsha and Sonny knew that if you could see one of them, the other was not far behind. They spent 44 years together, happily married, before his passing in 2008.

A devoted mother, Marsha spent most of her life raising her family. Once her children had grown up, she worked for many years as a cashier for Bowman’s Corner Store. She was extremely dedicated to her faith and loved being a part of the Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church community. Marsha spent much of her free time with Sonny, and they could often be found going camping or fishing together. Her roses were a point of pride for Marsha, and she could often be found outside tending to her garden. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her dog, Sasha.

Marsha is survived by her children, Harold Robert II of Wisconsin, Alonzo C. “Lonnie” Newton of Syracuse, and Tania (James) Copeland of Harrisville; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsea, Kimberleigh, Britney, Meghan, Ambriana, and Alonzo David; eight great-grandchidren; and a sister, Anne Burr of Tennesse.

She is predeceased by the love of her life, Harold “Sonny” Newton; and her parents, Clarence and Helen.

Arrangements are with the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., located at 500 State Street, Carthage, NY 13619. Online condolences in her memory can be made to www.lundyfuneralhome.com
