Marlene Luffman

Copenhagen - Marlene Luffman, 86, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, while at home.

Per her wishes, there will be no funeral services. A burial will take place in the spring at Deer River Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband George.

Marlene was born on August 23, 1939, to the late Stanley and Edna Houghton. She worked a variety of jobs in the North Country, including as a home health aide for various places, owning a dairy farm with her husband, George, and as a server for the many diners in Carthage.

Marlene was an incredibly hard worker; she had a great love for quilting, tending to her gardens, decorating cakes, woodworking, and just being outside. She often shared the fruits of her labor with those she loved, people often received beautiful quilts, intricate cakes, or delicious canned goods as gifts.

She is survived by her children, Kelly Cowan, Mark Luffman, and Jeffrey (Mary) Luffman,; two grandchildren, Tyler and Heather; and her siblings, Roland Houghton and Margaret Hoffman.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, George Luffman.
