Carthage – Mark Allen Austin, age 69, formerly of 222 State Street, died peacefully on Saturday evening, June 13, 2026, at the Jefferson County Hospice Residence. He was born on June 11, 1957, in Carthage to the late Kenneth L. and Dorothy (Robbins) Austin. 

A graduate of Carthage High School, Mark was employed as a security guard for Braman Manufacturing Company and Fibre Drum in West Carthage until his early retirement to care for his father. Mark was a humble man and a member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage, known for his willingness to help others. He enjoyed gardening and had a deep love for watching and feeding birds. 

He is survived by his cousins, Michel (David) Camidge; Diane (Fred) Joels; Cathy (Henry) Abrams; and Steven Kirch; his nephews and niece, Jamie, John, and Julie; and his beloved cat, Earl. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Lyle and Kevin, and his cousin James Kirch.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Carthage. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest alongside his parents.
