COPENHAGEN- Lucille H. Flanders, 74, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville, NY. She was born on January 5, 1951, at the Gouverneur Hospital to the late Lyle & Doris (Phelps) Manchester. She graduated from Harrisville Central High School in 1969 and continued her education at Morrisville ATC, graduating in 1970.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 2:00 pm with the Reverand Canon Samuel P. Lundy, officiating. A private burial will be held in the Bixby Cemetery in Norfolk, NY. All are invited to a reception at the Copenhagen Fire Department at 3:30 pm.
She married Jerry Flanders on September 23, 1972, at the Harrisville Christian Church by the Rev. Elwyn Putney and Rev. Allan T. Dodge, officiating the beautiful ceremony.
Lucille had a long and dedicated career at the Watertown Daily Times, where she worked for over 30 years. She began as an office clerk and keypunch operator and retired as the secretary to the circulation manager for the Johnson Newspaper Corporation.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Flanders, Copenhagen; her daughter, Marcy Flanders and her Grandchildren, Oliver Reisinger, Dahlia Reisinger, and Grant Lindsey, all of Carthage; her beloved sisters, Barbara J. Manchester, Harrisville; and Yvonne Marie Evans, Watertown.
Beyond her professional life, Lucille was actively involved in several organizations. She was a past member of the Emma Louise Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Harrisville; Lucille served the Order of the Eastern Stars and Past Matron of the Zenith Copenhagen Chapter, and she served as Grand Electa State Chapter of New York. Currently, she is a valued member of the Copenhagen Volunteer Firemen Ladies Auxiliary. Lucille has also held leadership positions in numerous associations, serving as Past President for the Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association Ladies Auxiliary and the Copenhagen Senior Citizens Club. She is a Life Member of the New York State Volunteer Firemen's Parade & Drill Team Captain Association, the Northern New York Parade & Drill Team Captain Association, and the Northern New York Parade Drill Official’s Association. She was instrumental in organizing Copenhagen Christmas and the memory tree each year. Lucille also arranged a little library at the Copenhagen Library called the book nook, which will be continued in her memory.
She had a true passion for gardening, especially tending to her beautiful flower gardens. One of the things she loved most was spending time entertaining her grandchildren.
Lucille is predeceased by her parents, Lyle & Doris Manchester, a sister, Beverly Manchester, who died at birth, and her granddaughter, Astrid Reisinger.
