Louis Sliva

Carthage - Louis “Butch” Sliva, 83, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, while at Hospice of Jefferson County with his family by his side.

Per his wishes, Louis will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Frances, in Michigan in the spring.

Louis was born on September 13, 1942, to the late Ann Kulpa and Louie Sowa. After graduating from high school in Chicago, Louis went on to work a variety of jobs, most notably as the warehouse manager for Tripack Co. He was an avid golf player, and loved to collect all the different gadgets he could find. Louis had a wonderful sense of humor and was always doing his best to put a smile on the face of everyone he met; this is how he will be remembered.

Louis married Frances Palakie on November 11, 1972, and they were happily married for 41 years before her passing in 2014.

Louis is survived by his children, Edward (Bobbie) Palakie, of Marengo, IL, William (Karen) Palakie, of Marengo, IL, Ron (Anna) Palakie of Richmond Hill, GA, and Cathy (Edward) Johns, of Munising, MI; ten grandchildren, Eddie, Christopher, Tom, David, Kristen, Samantha, Rhiannon, Jordon, Meghan, and Erik; eight great-grandchildren; five siblings, Bert, Bobby, Joe, Barbara, and Louise; and his dear friends, Glenda Morpeth, Cindy (Daryl) Murrock, and their families.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances; and six siblings.
