Carthage - Kenneth H. Johnson Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family, while under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.
Per his wishes, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be announced by the family.
Kenneth was born on October 31, 1942, in Carthage, to the late Carl E. and Marion (Gamble) Johnson Sr.. After attending Carthage Central School District, Kenneth went on to work a variety of jobs in the North Country. He worked for the majority of his life for the New York Airbrake as a Core Maker. Additionally, Kenneth worked for Sun-Up Food Store and for Metro Paper, where he retired at the age of 72.
He married the love of his life, Nancy Butts, on August 3rd, 1963, in Carthage.
Kenneth loved to watch his ball games on television; whether it was the Giants or the Yankees, he always loved rooting for New York and sharing his passion for the games with his beloved family.
He is survived by his children, a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Jr. and Kelly Johnson of Carthage, a son Ryan Johnson and his companion Diane O'Meara of Carthage, a daughter-in-law, Donna Johnson, Fort Myers, Florida; along with many special grandchildren, Kenneth C. Johnson, Kelsey Leigh Triviso, and Kaden Michael Johnson, and great-grandchildren, Paisley Olivia Triviso, Everly Grace Dermady, Graysen Axel Dermady, Hadley Parker Johnson, Storey Sophia Dermady and Bentley Edmond Johnson; a brother, Carl “Eddy” Johnson Jr.; and a special nephew who was like a brother, Bobby Rucker.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy; a son, Carl Johnson; a daughter, Leilani Johnson; and his sisters, Carol Johnson, Linda Pate, Roberta Knight,
