Carthage - Judith Edith Lannis, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, while at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, where she resided for some time.
Per her wishes, there will be no services. She will be laid to rest in the spring at Fort Jackson Hopkinton Cemetery alongside her son, to be announced at a later date.
Judith was born on January 24, 1937, in Ogdensburg, NY, to the late Glen and Ruth (Perry) Marsaw. After graduating from St. Lawrence Central High School, Judith went on to earn a degree from SUNY Canton, with a focus in Home Economics. She worked for many years at Whispering Pines for Jefferson County Office for the Aging as a Registered Dietitian and retired from there in 1999.
Her marriages to William Baxter, Jerry Cook Sr., and Edwin Lannis ended in divorce.
Judith was deeply devoted to her family and took great pride in the many ways she cared for them. She was an accomplished quilter, knitter, and crocheter, creating cherished pieces that reflected her patience and skill. She had a knack for decorating cakes, often acting as the centerpiece for many of the gatherings she had with her family. Most of all, Judith loved spending time with her family and found great joy in bringing everyone together with a warm, home-cooked meal.
She is survived by her children, Vicky (Jerry) Shaw, of Alexandria Bay, and Ricky Baxter of North Dakota; her grandchildren, William McConnell, Kristina McConnell, Clayton Baxter, and Grant Baxter; her seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Landers.
She is predeceased by a son, Jerry Cook Jr.; and her sisters, Jean Webb, Janet Arquette, and Joan Grobler.
Arrangements are being handled by Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. Online condolences may be made at www.lundyfuneralhome.com.
