Joseph T Staie

November 17, 1935 — October 26, 2016

CHAMPION -- Joseph Timothy Staie, 80, Co. Rte. 47, died early Wednesday morning, October 26, 2016, at the Lewis County General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in the Town of Brownville on November 17, 1935, the second son of Frederick & Amelda Shannon Staie. He graduated from Evans Mills High School in 1954. After school he was employed by the FW Woolworth Store in Carthage, where he met his future wife, Donna. He then went on to work for the Crown Zellerbach Paper Co. for more than 18 years. He then became employed as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator in various places, including the Village of Carthage and Fort Drum. He enjoyed gardening and caring for Donna's flowers which were a labor of love.
He married Donna Kay LeRoux at St. James Catholic Church, Carthage on September 9, 1955, by Joseph's uncle, Father Benjamin Staie.
Mr. Staie is also survived by his children; Jeanne (Thomas) Intorcia, Timothy (Kimberly) Staie, Frederick Staie, Peggy (David) Mitchell and Joseph Staie. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild who is expected in March, three sisters Mary Delles, Charlotte Hall, and Susanne ("Johnny") Bush, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Staie, died on August 15, 2016, and his sisters Florence McCormick and Gladys Adams and infant brother Frederick Staie.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Mr. Staie was an anatomical donation at SUNY Upstate Medical Center, something that he was sincerely adamant about during his lifetime. Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St, Carthage.
