COPENHAGEN- Jerry Flanders, 78, of Washington street, died on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in St. Lawrence County from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 6:00 with the Reverand Canon Samuel P. Lundy, officiating. Burial will be held privately in the Bixby Cemetery in Norfolk, NY. All are invited to a reception at the Copenhagen Fire Department at 6:30pm.
Jerry was born on August 18, 1946, to the late Warren B & Ruth Flanders and graduated from Norwood Norfolk Central High School in 1964. He went on to study finance at JCC in Watertown, NY, earning a degree in accounting and business in 1966. Jerry remained a distinguished alumni serving as Scoreboard Operator at the college from 1967 to present and was inducted into the JCC Hall of Fame in 2009. Jerry’s extensive experience started out as a former Chief of the Messenger Service of the Watertown Daily Times. Jerry went on to work as a Senior Account Clerk at Lewis County Department of Social Services in Lowville, NY for 33 years.
Jerry was dedicated to serving his community and many organizations. Jerry was a 51-year member of the Copenhagen Volunteer Fire Department, serving as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. He served in leadership positions for the Northern New York Volunteer Fire Parade and Drill Team Captains’ and Officials’ Association. He was instrumental in the scholarship program for high school seniors. Additionally, Jerry was the former columnist of the official magazine of FASNY. Jerry served on the Lewis Co. Fair Board and was the Vice-Chair for the Lewis County Office for the Aging Advisory Council. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity for 49 years, presently a member of the Bethany Lodge in Black River, NY and served as District Deputy in the Order of the Eastern Star in 1980.
He married Lucille H. Manchester on September 23, 1972, at the Harrisville Christian Church by the Rev. Elwyn Putney and Rev. Allan T. Dodge, officiating the beautiful ceremony. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Marcy Flanders and her children, Oliver Reisinger, Dahlia Reisinger, and Grant Lindsey, all of Carthage; his beloved sisters-in-law, Barbara J. Manchester, Harrisville, and Yvonne Marie Evans, Watertown.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Lucille H. Flanders, who died on June 11, 2025, and granddaughter Astrid Reisinger.
