James "Jim" M. Brodt Jr.

CARTHAGE -- James “Jim” M. Brodt, Jr., age 65, 222 State St., died peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026, at his home. Jim was born on November 18, 1960, in Utica, NY, to the late James M. and Gladys (Strain) Brodt Sr. He graduated from Mt. Markham High School and worked as a farmhand, and alongside his father doing whitewashing. He married Betty Simmons, on June 7, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Kathryn (Brandon Chapel), Joshua, and Aaron; his siblings, Mary, Donna, Doreen, and Glenn; his granddaughter, Brylie; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his neice Amy Brodt and nephews, Craig and Glenn Brodt.

Jim was a true outdoorsman at heart. He found peace in nature—whether he was tapping trees to make homemade maple syrup, riding his motorcycle on open roads, or spending a quiet afternoon fishing. An avid racing enthusiast, he could also frequently be found cheering in the stands at local dirt tracks and speedways. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 22nd, 2026 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, with a funeral service to follow at %:00 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica.
