CARTHAGE - Howard C. Martin, 71, of South Washington Street, died on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at home. He was born on November 1, 1945 in Watertown, New York to Leland James and Hazel Amorit Nevills Martin. He graduated from Carthage Central High School.
He served in the New York Army National Guard for 29 years on Fort Drum as a heavy equipment operator. He was a repair foreman and a general mechanic.
He is survived by a daughter, Melissa Sue Martin-Wood (Kevin II), Carthage; a brother, Bernard (Diane) Martin, Champion; a sister in law Lillian Martin, Oxbow; two grandchildren Adrienne and Adalynn Martin, Carthage; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his parents Leland and Hazel Martin; a brother Leland John Martin.
He was a member of the Bassett-Baxter American Legion Post # 789 for 40 years, Carthage, BPOE Elks Lodge, Carthage, and the Eagles Club of Watertown.
He enjoyed meeting his buddies for morning coffee and afternoon visits.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 9th, 2017 at the Lundy Funeral Home from 12-2. A Funeral Service will follow at 2p.m. in the chapel with the Reverend Samuel P. Lundy, officiating. Burial will take place with Military Honors in the St. James Catholic Cemetery in Carthage.
