Harold R. Jackson

DENMARK - Harold R. Jackson, 88, 9929 NYS Route 26, passed away Tuesday evening, July 25, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse.
Born at home in New Bremen on June 20, 1929, a son of the late Harold and Helen Meszaros Jackson, he graduated from Lowville Academy. He then served in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. On April 8, 1951 he married Joan Twitchell at the Carthage Methodist Church. Following his military service, he began working as a shipping and receiving clerk at a Climax Manufacturing Company in Castorland, where he remained for 43 years upon retirement.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Deer River, as well as Carlowden Country Club, Carthage Elks Lodge #1762, and the Carthage American Legion Post #789. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and traveling.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Joan; three children, Patricia C. (Timothy) Farney of Beaver Falls; David H. (Carol) Jackson of Beaver Falls; Douglas W. (Dawn) Jackson of Croghan; a sister, Muriel Lee of New Bremen; two brothers, Donald and William Jackson, both of New Bremen; eight grandchildren, Kristin Passante; Laurie Ferguson; Timothy Jackson; Tracy Taylor; Peter Farney; Amanda Jackson; Jessica Reese; Brittany Roberts; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Harold are his special long-time friends, Steve, Jim and Maureen (Kelley) Brennan.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., located at 500 State St., Carthage. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Deer River, with Pastor Thomas Sherwood officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Deer River, PO Box 18, Deer River, NY 13627.
