Black River - Gary T. J. Campany, 81, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025, while at Syracuse VA Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Carthage Church of the Nazarene, located at 960 State Street, Carthage, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1:00 pm with Pastor Rob Smith officiating. Following the funeral, a burial will be held at Sandhill Cemetery in Natural Bridge. After, a reception will be held at the Carthage Church of the Nazarene.
Gary was born on August 22, 1943, to the late Raymond and Lucille (Terry) Campany. He attended Beaver River School. He was employed at NY Airbrake as a foundry worker for many years. Gary was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and was extremely proud of his opportunity to serve his country.
He married Marsha Smith on July 29th, 1967. They were married for 58 wonderful years.
Gary was a man of many interests. He loved watching “The Price is Right”, old western films, and professional wrestling. His favorite sports team was the New York Giants. He loved to play bingo. He was a member of the Natural Bridge Volunteer Fire Department. One of his favorite things to do was to work on his yard. He had a green thumb and would often get upset when he could not tend to it. Most of all, Gary was devoted to his family. He was a selfless man who loved with a big heart. He was an amazing father to his children and an amazing grandfather to his grandchildren. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and would do anything to help them.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marsha; his sons, Gary (Angela) Campany and Jason Campany; his daughter, Debra Campany; his five beloved and cherished grandchildren, Gary Jr., Chastity, Joey, Shaine, and Donovan; his brother, John Campany; his sisters, Barbara Higby and Carol Snyder; his sisters-in-law, Gloria (Bill) Terry and Gail (Steve) Hutt; his brothers-in-law, Bruce (Nancy) Smith and Rich Smith; and his nieces and nephews.
Gary is predeceased by his mother, Lucille (Terry) Campany; his father, Raymond Campany; and brother, Raymond Jr. Campany.
Donations in Gary’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
