CROGHAN – Frederick J. Chartrand, 72, Jerden Falls Rd., passed away peacefully on April 30th, 2024, at the Carthage Area Hospital, where he had been a patient for a short time.

Fred was born on May 6th, 1951, in Gouverneur, to Harold “Pat” and Irene Lacross Chartrand Manchester.

After high school, Fred enlisted in the United States Army, serving overseas in Vietnam as a Combat Medic, earning an honorable discharge in 1972.  Fred worked in sales for many years at several local businesses, such as Caskinette - Lofink Ford and Gamble’s Distributors.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Diane Ashline Chartrand, his son, Kelly (Heidi) Chartrand, his mother, Irene Manchester along with his three grandchildren; Dominyk, Alexander and Piper Chartrand.  He is also survived by his siblings; Trudy, Kenneth and Thomas Chartrand, as well as Patricia Frerichs.

He is predeceased by his father, Harold “ Pat” Chartrand and his daughter, Mackenzie Chartrand.

In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, playing golf and socializing with his friends at the Harrisville Rod & Gun Club and the Dionne-Rumble VFW Post in Carthage.

The Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy will conduct a brief prayer service at 2:00 PM on Fred’s 73rd birthday, May 6, 2024, followed by a presentation of Military Honors at the Dionne-Rumble VFW Post #7227, on West End Ave, Carthage. A Celebration of Life will continue at the VFW until 6:00 PM.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., Carthage.
