KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, FL: Fred Morris Poppy Babcock, 71, of Keystone Heights passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, surrounded by his loving family after a 6-year battle with prostate cancer.
Fred was born on May 21, 1947 in Carthage, NY a son to the late Fredie and Helen Babcock.
Fred served his country in the 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive where he was involved in numerous ground actions and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He participated in operations along DMZ and received the Navy Achievement Medal for Combat B. Upon finishing his 13-month tour in Vietnam, he married his loving wife Elizabeth Babcock. He was active with the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 20 Organization in Rochester, NY, and AM Vets. Fred was a lifetime member of the Genesee Valley Detachment of The Marine Corps League and was active in helping set up Chapters around New York. He served as Chief of Staff for the Department of NY Marine Corps League along with serving as their area Vice Commandant-Northwest from 1992-1993. Following his 34 year career with Eastman Kodak, in 2003 he retired and made Keystone Heights his home.
Fred was a family man, he enjoyed spending time with his boys and watching them experience life.
Fred leaves behind his loving and dedicated wife of 50 years, Elizabeth; their only son Thomas (Sarah) Babcock; three grandchildren, Tanner, Kaiden, and Brayden; three sisters, Tammy Limbaugh; Kathy Bernier; and Linda Kizzer; and many loving family members.
He is predeceased by his sisters, Mary Lancaster and Charlene Babcock.
A Memorial Service will be held in Florida on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11 AM. A burial will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 1 PM in Fairview Cemetery, Carthage, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Childrens Ministry at Trinity Baptist Church.
