Carthage - Francis Runkles, 72, passed away on July 12, 2026, while at Wynn Hospital in Utica, with his family by his side.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 16, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lundy Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 17, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lundy Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Richard J. Staab officiating

Born March 19, 1954, to Russell B. Runkles Sr. and Frances I. Runkles, Frank attended the Carthage Central School District, graduating in 1973.

Frank married Agnes C. Robinson on Sept. 22, 1979, at St. James Catholic Church, Carthage. The couple had three children: Joshua, Stacy and Justin. Justin passed away July 20, 2022.

Frank worked for more than 43 years in paper manufacturing before retiring from the former FiberMark plant in Lowville. He enjoyed working on cars in his younger years, listening to ‘60s music and hunting. He will forever be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and love for his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Agnes of Carthage; son Joshua, Salisbury, N.C.; daughter Stacy (George) Passage of Salisbury, N.C., and their son, Jaxon; and daughter-in-law Kelly Kinsella Runkles of Rodman, and her daughter, Kamryn. He is also survived by brother Russell B. Runkles Jr. and sister-in-law Janice, Mooresville, N.C.; brother Thomas Runkles and sister-in-law Debbie, Evans Mills; sister Carol Runkles, Mooresville, N.C.; sister Crystal Elliott, Carthage; sister Sheila Runkles, Carthage; brother Richard Runkles and sister-in-law, Cathy, Troutman, N.C.; brother David Runkles, Carthage; brother Michael Runkles, Carthage; and brother Andrew Runkles and sister-in-law Tina, Lakeland, Fla. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Frank was predeceased by his parents; son Justin; former daughter-in-law Jennifer Wilton Runkles; and brother-in-law Joseph Elliott.
