Carthage - Douglas Sayre, 72, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, while at Crouse Hospital, surrounded by his family.
A celebration of life will take place on June 13, 2026, at 11:00 am at the North Country Fellowship Church, located at 35206 Sayre Rd, Carthage, NY 13619.
Douglas was born on February 27, 1954, to the late Vincent R. and Elizabeth A. (Porter) Sayre. He attended West Carthage Elementary and graduated from Carthage High School and the Automotive Tech program at Jefferson- Lewis BOCES in 1972. After high school, Douglas attended Lancaster Bible College, starting in the fall of 1972.
He married the love of his life, Judy L. Martin, on September 10, 1977, in Vienna, Virginia.
Always a busy man, Douglas worked a variety of jobs throughout his life. He worked for Sears Roebuck & Company and Northland Electric in Watertown, then transferred to Sears in Montgomery, Maryland, and later to Sears in Fairfax, Virginia. Additionally, he worked for the Air Treatment Company in Vienna, Virginia, Sears in Arlington, Virginia, Saymar Inc. in Centreville, Virginia, and then later for Carthage Area Rescue Squad and Guilfoyle Ambulance after his return to the North Country.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Judy Sayre; his sons, George B. (Robyn) Sayre and Benjamin R. (Emily Pierce) Sayre; his daughter, Rebecca I. Sayre Duncan; and his grandchildren, Isaac Duncan Jr., Makaylynn Duncan, Edgar Duncan III, Karma Duncan, Karen Rae Lynn Sayre, Chloe Sayre, and Krystyana Duncan; and a sister, Sandra Glenney.
He is predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Elizabeth.
