CARTHAGE Dale A. Gates, 68, passed away on Tuesday evening, April 2, 2019 at SUNY Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse with his family by his side.
Dale was born on February 7, 1951 in Carthage, New York, a son of the late Bernard E. and Marjorie L. (Norton) Gates. In 1969 he graduated from Carthage Central School. He was employed with Climax Manufacturing for a time. He then went on to work at Blue Seal Feeds, Inc. as a track shed operator and assistant mechanic until his retirement.
On November 6, 1971 he married Elizabeth Betty Doyle.
Dale was a past member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Carthage and is a current member of the Carthage First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed hunting, leather craft, fishing and traveling. He also loved spending time on the river with his family & friends and watching his grandchildrens sporting and music events.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 48 years, Betty; a daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Kevin Barber of Carthage; and two grandchildren, Nora and Jacob Barber. He is predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Marjorie Gates and a brother, Larry Gates.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Carthage First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will immediately follow the service at Sunnyside Cemetery, Naumburg.
