COPENHAGEN – Christopher "Chris" James McDonald, 73, of Copenhagen, passed away on March 27, 2026, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Born in Watertown, NY, on December 17, 1952, to Claire and Margaret (Lee) McDonald, Chris graduated from Copenhagen High School in 1971. That same year, he began his service in the United States Air Force.
On January 17, 1981, Chris married Pamela Card in Walker, Louisiana. The couple lived in Louisiana for 15 years before returning to New York in 1992. Chris later retired from Advantage Auto Parts in Carthage in 2015. He was an enthusiast of NASCAR and aviation, and he loved nothing more than tinkering with engines and spending quality time with his family. He was a member of the Lowville American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Pam; his sons, Christopher R. (Brandi) of Carthage and Michael (Cassandra) of Copenhagen; four grandchildren, Steven Ainsworth, Caitlyn (Cody) Lyndaker, Sophia and Aubrie; and his great-grandson, Steven Christopher. He was also eagerly anticipating the birth of his great-granddaughter, Elsie Lyndaker, due April 2nd. Further survivors include his father-in-law and his spouse, Everett and Faye Card; sister-in-law Tina (Donnie) Myers; brother-in-law Kenneth Baldwin; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Nancy (and husband Dennis) and Barbara Baldwin; and his mother-in-law, Louella Card.
Following Chris' wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 30th at 1:00 PM at the Carthage American Legion Post #789 West Street, Carthage, NY 13619.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rutland Fire Department, 28502 NY 126, Watertown, NY 13601 or the Copenhagen Golden Knights Booster Club, 3020 Mechanic St., Copenhagen, NY 13626.
