Carol L. Kirch, 87, of Number Four Rd., Lowville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the Hospice House of Jefferson County.
She was born on September 19, 1939, in Mexico, NY, the daughter of the late Carl and Vida (Rose) Lortie. She graduated from General Brown High School in 1958 and was primarily a homemaker. On June 28, 1958, she married Bernard Kirch. After a brief time in Dexter, they settled in Watertown and raised their family of five children. The couple were together for 58 years until his passing on April 20, 2016.
Her five children survive her: Leonard (Maria) Kirch of Vallejo, CA; Karen Kirch of Valdosta, GA; Terrie (William) Massaro of Baldwinsville, NY; Jerry (Kathleen) Kirch of Rutland, NY; and Susan Kirch Corey (Neal) of Copenhagen, NY. She is also survived by a brother, Roy David Matteson of Mexico, NY; grandchildren: Ruthie, Lisa, Branden, Cassandra, William, Lawrence, Ashten, Gretchen, Tyler, Justin, Ryan, Marina, and Racheal; and great-grandchildren: Allison, Eliza, Catherin, Drew, James, Hayden, Bethany, Mullaney, and Mason, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a dedicated volunteer for Food Sense of CNY. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting socks, mittens, scarves, and hats for her family. She also had a wonderful knack for baking, especially her peanut brittle and soft ginger snaps. Above all, she loved celebrating with her family, hosting Christmas parties, and bringing everyone together for the holidays. She deeply cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandbabies. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bernard Kirch, her two brothers, Leon and Frank, and a grandson, Daniel Massaro. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 2- 4 p.m. at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State Street, Carthage, NY 13619.
