Carthage - Betty J. Kirch, 91, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, while at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 10:00 am in the Lundy Funeral Home Chapel, located at 500 State Street, Carthage, with the Reverend Canon Samuel P. Lundy officiating.

Betty was born on December 24, 1933, in Dexter, the daughter of the late Roswell and Estelle (Fleury) Robbins. She was a graduate of the Dexter Union Free School District.

Throughout her working years, Betty dedicated her time to Frank’s Fabric Care Center, which included a Laundromat and dry cleaning services, and the Woolworths Store, both of which were staples in Carthage. Beyond her work, Betty found immense pleasure in volunteering at the Carthage Area Hospital Gift Shop and the Skilled Nursing Unit, where she enjoyed staying connected with the local community through news updates. She received the senior award, honor, and recognition for all her years of volunteering for the hospital. Betty loved animals and rescued many cats. 

Her hobbies included tending to her garden, with a particular fondness for her flowers, as well as creating ceramics and engaging in needlepoint.

Betty and Dewey Kirch celebrated over 73 wonderful years of marriage after tying the knot on May 19, 1952.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Dewey; her children, Michel (David) Camidge of Baldwinsville, Diane (Fred) Joels of Carthage, Cathy (Henry) Abrams of Carthage, and Steven Kirch of Carthage, along with her 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, Roswell and Estelle, her siblings, Dorothy M. Austin in 1997, James Robbins in 2017, and a son, James Kirch.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewis County Humane Society or to the Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary.
