Obituary

The legal system and the afterlife are both on high alert following the permanent retirement of Althea Hadley,  who officially escaped her earthly bonds before anyone could catch her pulling pranks on them.

Born right in the center of the Hadley family pack, Althea was the third of six siblings. She spent her entire life proving that middle child syndrome is best cured by an unwavering dedication to pulling pranks on her brothers and sisters.

Armed with a sharp wit, Althea graduated from Jefferson Community College in 1991 with an Associates degree in Criminal Justice, and from SUNY Potsdam in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. While her family always suspected she chose these exact degrees purely to study human behavior and execute the perfect, legally ambiguous practical jokes, Althea actually used her powers for immense good. Beneath her mischievous exterior beat a heart of pure gold. She dedicated her career to fierce advocacy, working with domestic violence victims and fighting for anyone who needed a voice, or a safe place to land.

Althea leaves behind a legacy of laughter, a love for her ancestry, and a community made brighter by her deep love and care. She is survived by her siblings Diana Thatcher, Craig Hadley ( Stacy Hadley ) Sheila Hadley, Chris Hadley (Julia Hadley), Marcia Denardo (James Denardo), and multiple nieces and nephews, who are left to wonder who will inherit her crown of mischief (though they suspect it will be Craig).

She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Douglas Getman, who predeceased her in 2010. Althea will be laid to rest right by his side, where they can finally swap stories and she can catch him up on all the jokes he missed.

Per Althea's suspected wishes, we ask that instead of tears, you share your favorite story about her, and instead of flowers, that you donate to an animal charity in her name, since they also work tirelessly for those who need a voice.

Calling hours and funeral service are at Lundy's Funeral Home, Friday the 18th of September, from  11am-1pm respectively.
