ANTWERP - Dennis D. Stevenson, 64, 94 Barker Rd., died Friday morning, May 3, 2013 at his home, while under the care of his family and Hospice.

Born in Great Bend on August 8, 1948, the son of Paul & Evelyn Stevens Stevenson. He attended Carthage schools and served in the United States Navy. He married Rebecca Benson on October 8, 1974. He was formerly employed by Yellow Cab in Watertown.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca and his granddaughter Rebecca G. Stevenson, both at home, his children; Dawn Cole, Watertown, Cathy Clemons, Arkansas, Marc Stevenson, Star Lake and Michael Stevenson, California. Also surviving are his sister, Paula Carpenter, Pennsylvania, his brother, Jack Stevenson, Lowville and 14 other grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 10th at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 12:00 - 2:00 PM.

CARTHAGE- William Francis Beirman, 45, of 42173 Avery Road in Natural Bridge died on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home.
He was born on February 22, 1968 in Carthage to James William and Beverly Jean Shoen Beirman. He attended Carthage High School. He worked as a Mechanic for 11-years on Fort Drum. He married Desiree Davoy on August 1, 2009 at Pleasant Lake.

He is survived by his wife Desiree; Natural Bridge, four children, Dustin, California; Dylan, Watertown, Chase, Carthage; and Kylee, Natural Bridge; his mother, Beverly Beirman, Carthage; four brothers, James Jr., Natural Bridge; Richard, Herrings; Donald, Carthage; Kevin, Watertown; and one sister, Linda Beirman, Watertown. He is also survived by one-grandchild Jayden, Watertown.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, softball, his motorcycle, and spending time with his family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage at 11am on Tuesday, May 7 at 11am, with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor, officiating.


Ford will be buried at St. James Cemetery, Carthage, with interment ceremonies being held at 11am on Thursday, May 9.

Donations can be made to St. James Parish, 327 West St., Carthage, NY 13619.

COPENHAGEN -- R. Ford Wright, 88, died May 5, 2013 at his home on Maple Ave.


Ford spent much of his life as a funeral director with the former Bossuot Funeral Home in Carthage, NY, raising four kids with his beloved wife Carol. In 1978, Ford retired from the funeral business and spent the next 30 years on the road, traveling across the U.S. selling Funeral Home Directories with Carol. After retiring from his second career, Ford and Carol spent the next 10 years splitting their time between Colorado, Bella Vista, AR and the North Country, before making Copenhagen their permanent home.


Ford was born February 11, 1925 to Ralph Ford Wright Sr. and Virginia Wright in Carthage, NY. He graduated from High School at the Carthage Augustinian Academy. He attended Ohio State University and graduated from the Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY. In April of 1943, Ford joined the U.S. Army to fight in WWII. He started the War in February of 1944 at Cherbourg, France, fighting his way to the outskirts of Berlin, while attaining the rank of Sergeant before being discharged in February, 1946. Ford enjoyed skiing and golfing and was devout Catholic, fourth degree Knight of Columbus and member of the Carthage Elks Lodge, BPOE #1762.


Ford is survived by his daughter, Barbann and her husband Marty Deline of Denver, CO, and their children Lesley, Cameron, Lizbeth, and Allison; his daughter Eleanor (Sis) and her husband Rudy Villerreal of Denver, CO, and their son Raul; and his son Ted and his wife Nina of Alexandria, VA and their children Boker and Anastasia, and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Carol Bossuot Wright (1930-2009), his son Timothy Ford Wright (1953-2011), and his grandson Micah Villarreal (1981-2005).


Calling hours will be held at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, on Monday, May 6 from 5pm-9pm.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 -7 PM at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. The American Legion will have a service at 6 PM and Father Maroun will have a service at 6:45 PM. The Patriot Guard will be in attendance both Saturday and Sunday

CARTHAGE -- D.C. "Smoke" Murphy, Escondido, California, died April 22, in the hospice facility of the VA Hospital in LaJolla, California.

Born on February 14, 1923, the family residence was in Montague, NY located on the Tug Hill Plateau. Severe winter weather required that his mother go to Lowville for his birth. The family home was destroyed by fire in 1929 and they moved to Lowville where he and his sister Jeanne attended Lowville Academy. They moved to Carthage in 1938 where he and Jeanne attended Augustinian Academy and they later transferred to Carthage High school. Both were in the class of 1941.

Smoke also attended Paul Smith's College, in the Adirondacks, and furthered his education in various colleges in California. He was a professional waiter; he owned and operated a Barbecue catering service for large groups. He raced boats for two years and finally settled into the carpentry trade. He retired at age 83 as a construction inspector. He lived for many years in Downey, California, moved to Temecula where he lived for more than 20 years, then moved to Escondido in 2012. Smoke spent the last week of his life in LaJolla VA Hospital Hospice care. Many of his close friends were with him during his final days.

He joined the US Army Air Corps in 1943 and served as a B - 17 Radio Operator with the 397th Bomb Squadron. He and his sister Jeanne were able to communicate in Morse Code. She was a radio operator with the Civil Aeronautic administration in Fairbanks, Alaska. Smoke bought his first Motorcycle in 1993 when he was 70 years old. He rode with the "Run For the Wall" the first time in 1995 and rode 12 more cross country runs and 4 partial runs. He joined the American Legion Riders Chapter 149, Escondido, California, in 2001 and was a rider with them until his last ride on March 11, 2012. He sold his 1993 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic with 240,000 plus miles, to one of his best friends in Lead Hill, Arkansas. This gentleman had taught Smoke to "ride"!

Smoke was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Escondido, California, Run for the Wall bikers, American Legion Post 149, Escondido, California. He was an active member of the Patriot Guard
Smoke's family wishes to thank Tim and Riley Heck, Lauri Minville, Joe and Cathy Watt, Dan and Helen Lloyd who have supported and cared for Smoke in tremendous ways during his illness. They also thank all who have been supportive not only to him but to his family who are located so far away. Names are too numerous to mention but the amount of thanks to ALL is greater than words can express.

He is pre deceased by his parents, his brothers Bernard, Joseph USMC who died in Vietnam, his sister Jeanne who died March 7, 2013, Three nephews Timothy, Douglas and Joseph Wells and several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He is survived by his sister Norma Murphy Irvin, Ogdensburg, NY , nine nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews and six great - great nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Funeral Services will be Monday, May 6th, at 11 AM, at the St. James Catholic Church, Carthage, with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, in the family gravesite, in Copenhagen NY, with Military Honors. CARTHAGE- Irene Goetz, of West Stree Road Carthage, died on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 9, 1919 in the Town of Croghan, daughter of William R. and Harriett Corner Burns. She was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School in 1935. She was also a graduate of Canton ATC in 1977. She attended Syracuse University and Empire State College.

She married Harold R. Geotz on October 10, 1942 at the St. James Rectory with the Reverend Father Samuel De Angelo, officiating. Mr. Goetz a 25 year veteran of the Carthage Police Department, he died on April 16, 1969.

She was a Food Service Director; she retired after 25 years at the Carthage Central School District and 7 years on staff at the Jefferson Community College Food & Nutrition Hospitality and Tourism Department. A lifetime member of the St. James Catholic Church; charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Jefferson County School Food Service Association; The NYS Food Service Association; the National School Food Association.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage on Monday, May 29, 2013 at 12:00pm with the Revered George F. Maroun, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Carthage.

Calling hours will be held at The St. James Catholic Church in Carthage which is located at 327 West Street in Carthage on Monday, April 29, 2013 from 11:00am-12:00pm.

Arrangements are being handled by Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc. located at 500 State Street in Carthage.

Donations in her memory can be made to the St. James Catholic Church 327 West Street, Carthage NY 13619.
